Within the framework of scientific cooperation between Gharyan University and the Libyan Academy, the Department of Geology at the College of Science, Gharyan, participated with the scientific departments of the Libyan Academy, Gharyan branch, which are (the Department of Environmental Science, the Department of Geography, and the Department of Geology in following up on cracks and ground fissures in the mouth of Wadi Ajhish and the mouth of Wadi Al-Mazayda in the Qutis region, which It is located north of Kikla, and these cracks are considered extensions of the Ouled Bou Aisha cracks. These cracks, which are located in Qattis, extend to approximately 6 km and contain valleys up to 40 meters deep that have swallowed large quantities of rainwater that fell during the past period.
The results of preliminary studies indicate that its formation was due to regional seismic vibrations or as a result of landslides due to the subsidence of the lower gypsum rocks.
The geophysical survey of the affected areas, which is expected in the near future, will provide us with subsurface images, based on which we will know what exists under the surface.
