A scientific lecture entitled “One Health and Antibiotic Resistance in the Agro-Ecological System”

On Sunday, 10/05/2026, the Faculty of Science – Gharyan organized a scientific lecture entitled “One Health and Antibiotic Resistance in the Agro-Ecological System”, presented by Dr. Khaled Ali Blaaw, a faculty member in the Department of Botany. This event was held as part of efforts to support scientific research and to promote awareness of the importance of the One Health concept and its role in addressing environmental and public health challenges.


The lecture was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, the Vice Dean for Scientific Affairs, the Director of the International Cooperation Office at the university, heads of departments and administrative offices at the faculty, heads of academic departments, as well as several environmental inspectors from the Environmental Sanitation Department, representatives of civil society organizations, officials from the agricultural sector in Gharyan, faculty members, and undergraduate and postgraduate students. The session began with a welcoming address delivered by the Dean of the Faculty, who emphasized the importance of scientific activities and their role in strengthening research and serving the community.


The lecture addressed the importance of the integration between human, animal, and environmental health, with a particular focus on the risks associated with the inappropriate use of antibiotics in agricultural and ecological systems, and the necessity of adopting scientific and awareness-based strategies to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance.


This event is part of the faculty’s ongoing efforts to support scientific and awareness activities and to strengthen partnerships with relevant institutions in a way that serves society and the environment.


The event concluded with an interactive discussion session with attendees, during which several scientific contributions and inquiries were raised regarding the current state of antibiotic resistance and mechanisms for enhancing awareness and research in this field. The discussion was notably engaging and contributed to enriching dialogue and exchanging expertise and perspectives.


At the end of the lecture, the faculty administration presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Khaled Ali Blaaw in recognition of his scientific efforts and valuable contribution to the success of this impactful academic event.
