Within the framework of the field application of the theoretical aspect of the soil conservation and maintenance course, the field trip for the course students started on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, under the supervision of the course professor, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif, and accompanied by Professor Abdul Hamid Al-Turaiki, Head of the Department of Zoology. The destination was to the southern part of Gharyan, starting from the Al-Kaliba - Jendouba - Al-Qadama - Al-Tawama - Ghout Al-Reeh - Al-Salalamah - Upper Wadi Ghan in Al-Salalamah, then returning.During this field trip, students learned about the nature of the region from a bioclimatic perspective and how to control it mathematically. They also learned about the most important aspects of environmental degradation related to wind and water erosion, and how the region, which is characterized by the sensitivity of its bioclimatic level, requires work to limit the forms of degradation resulting from various human practices.Such as converting pasture lands to agricultural lands, overgrazing and early grazing, which led to the formation of the phenomenon of sand dunes around plant beds, the phenomenon of sand dunes, mound deposits, desert bed forms, the phenomenon of hanging roots, water gully forms and soil erosion. These phenomena have been documented photographically.Holocene (modern) soil encrustations of the Lava Butterflies and volcanic basalts formed in the Tertiary and Quaternary (Pleistocene) periods were also identified and illustrated on the geological map using a GPS device.
