From the activities of the Chemistry Department

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, a field workshop was held on collecting soil samples for heavy element analysis, organized by the Chemistry Department and with the participation of students of the department.

The workshop began with a lecture given by Professor Abdul Nasser Al-Basheer Al-Sagheer, in which he reviewed comprehensive information on how to choose appropriate sites for collecting samples, determining the number of samples required to be collected, in addition to the correct methods for collecting them. The students then applied this information practically, as they carried out the process of collecting samples in the field.

The students were also introduced to how to store and transport samples to the laboratory, in addition to a brief explanation of how to process soil samples to prepare them for analysis. They also listened to an overview of the specialized devices used to measure the concentration of heavy elements in soil.We hope that this workshop has provided valuable benefit to students on a very important topic, although it is not usually taught in Libyan universities. We hope that such scientific activities will continue, which contribute to enhancing the knowledge and practical skills of students.
